Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shakar, one of the American and British sitarist. She was the first and first woman to receive an award from the British House of Commons Shield she's had 9 Grammy Awards nominations and was the first artist of Indian of Indian descent to perform live and to be a presenter for the awards ceremony. Anoushka Shankar is an emerging young star of the Indian sitar. She is Ravi Shankar's student as well as his daughter. Born in London, she spent the beginning of her career bouncing between London as well as New Delhi. In New Delhi, she made her first appearance at only 13 years old. In 1999, she completed her high school education in Encinitas CA. Anouskha continues to have a bright performing and recording careers, even though she's only a teenager. Since a while, she performs regularly alongside her father. Her first solo album, Anourag, was released in 1998. The album was titled the album Live At Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album two years following. Stage performance is a important aspect of her life. She has performed in a variety of major venues all over the world. Her career doesn't just involve musical performances. In 2002, she wrote an autobiography titled Bapi The Love of My Live this is a pictorial biography which gives a special respect to her dad Ravi Shankar. She has also acted in a number of films. In 2003, she acted in the film Dance Like a Man where she plays a young Bharat Natyam performer. Anoushka Shakar's professional career will only continue to grow and expand. We can look forward to seeing many interesting things coming from her. Anoushka lived a long time between London and Delhi during her young years. Later, she moved to California for high school. In Delhi during his birthday celebrations for his 75th birthday she made her debut as a sitar player in front of an audience at the age of four, following her nine year old father. Anoushka had the opportunity to acquire numerous valuable experience as she traveled with her father when he toured the world. It included performances at Carnegie Hall and at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festivals in addition to recording with George Harrison. Her artistry and musicianship have been acknowledged by the British parliament as the best in Asian Arts.
